The Seven Pillars of BizCheck Navigator

Pillar 1: Leadership

Tagline: Setting direction and culture

Why it matters: Leadership provides the vision, values, and culture that shape how an organisation functions. Without clear leadership, even strong financial or operational systems become fragile.

  • Does the company have a clear vision, mission, values, and ethics?
  • Are these principles communicated to employees, customers, and stakeholders?
  • Do leaders act as role models and develop future leaders?
  • Are governance and accountability systems in place?
  • Does the company contribute to the community and environment?

Scoring stages:

  • Critical – Vision and values exist only on paper; leaders act reactively.
  • Developing – Leadership shows partial clarity and some cultural initiatives.
  • Mature – Leaders are proactive, consistent, and deeply aligned with values.

Example actions:

  • Introduce structured mentoring programmes.
  • Conduct 360° feedback to improve leadership behaviour.

Pillar 2: Planning

Tagline: Turning vision into strategy

Why it matters: Planning translates leadership vision into strategy. Without planning, even good ideas remain intentions with no structure.

  • Are short- and long-term plans clearly defined?
  • Does planning include input from employees, customers, and stakeholders?
  • Are resources allocated to support action plans?
  • Are risks identified and managed?

Scoring stages:

  • Critical – Plans are vague, reactive, and disconnected from reality.
  • Developing – Plans exist but execution is inconsistent.
  • Mature – Planning is systematic, inclusive, and adaptive.

Example actions:

  • Introduce SWOT or PESTEL analysis to strengthen plans.
  • Review and adjust strategies annually based on market changes.

Pillar 3: Information

Tagline: Powering decisions with knowledge

Why it matters: Information is the backbone of decision-making. Without reliable data, organisations operate on guesswork.

  • Is information collected and used to support decisions?
  • Are benchmarks and comparisons applied to track performance?
  • Are best practices identified and shared across the company?
  • Are IT systems secure and user-friendly?

Scoring stages:

  • Critical – Information is incomplete, outdated, or anecdotal.
  • Developing – Some systems exist but are uneven or not integrated.
  • Mature – Information is accurate, shared, and drives improvement.

Example actions:

  • Introduce centralised databases for performance data.
  • Train managers to analyse patterns rather than just report numbers.

Pillar 4: Customers

Tagline: Listening, engaging, and retaining

Why it matters: Customers are the lifeblood of any business. Listening to them and managing relationships effectively determines long-term survival.

  • Does the company identify and segment customers?
  • Are satisfaction levels measured and tracked?
  • Are customer complaints managed constructively?
  • Is customer feedback integrated into strategic planning?

Scoring stages:

  • Critical – Customers are noticed only when they complain.
  • Developing – Customer systems exist but are inconsistent.
  • Mature – Customer voice and management are embedded in culture.

Example actions:

  • Establish regular customer satisfaction surveys.
  • Use CRM tools to track and manage relationships consistently.

Pillar 5: People

Tagline: Building strength through people

Why it matters: Employees are the foundation of performance and innovation. A company’s ability to grow depends on how well it supports, develops, and engages its people.

  • Does HR planning align with company strategy?
  • Are employees engaged and encouraged to innovate?
  • Are career development pathways clear?
  • Is employee safety and well-being prioritised?
  • Are appraisal and reward systems fair and aligned with goals?

Scoring stages:

  • Critical – People systems are fragmented, morale is low.
  • Developing – Some systems exist but lack consistency.
  • Mature – People are engaged, supported, and aligned with strategy.

Example actions:

  • Introduce structured career development plans.
  • Build well-being initiatives to improve morale and retention.

Pillar 6: Operations

Tagline: Driving excellence in execution

Why it matters: Operations determine how well the company delivers products and services. Strong operations mean higher quality, lower cost, and better resilience.

  • Are key processes defined and measured?
  • Are operations aligned with customer and stakeholder requirements?
  • Is the supply chain evaluated and strengthened?
  • Are processes reviewed to reduce costs and improve quality?

Scoring stages:

  • Critical – Operations are reactive and fragmented.
  • Developing – Systems exist but are inconsistent or siloed.
  • Mature – Processes are streamlined, efficient, and innovative.

Example actions:

  • Conduct supplier performance reviews regularly.
  • Introduce Lean or Six Sigma methods to improve processes.

Pillar 7: Business Outcomes

Tagline: Measuring results that matter

Why it matters: Ultimately, businesses are judged by results—financial, human capital, and process outcomes. These reveal whether strategies and systems actually deliver value.

  • Are financial and market results tracked and benchmarked?
  • Are workforce performance indicators monitored and improved?
  • Are process performance results measured and reviewed?

Scoring stages:

  • Critical – Results are vague or missing; no benchmarking.
  • Developing – Results exist but are inconsistent or incomplete.
  • Mature – Results are tracked, benchmarked, and continuously improved.

Example actions:

  • Introduce KPIs for financial, workforce, and process outcomes.
  • Benchmark results against industry leaders.
